Hello! I hope you are enjoying summer and the wonderful weather we’re having if you’re in the UK! It’s lovely, though I think I prefer when the temperatures don’t go above 25 degrees Celsius 😄
What’s been going on:
My husband and I went on a holiday to the wonderful Sark in the Channel Islands. We fell in love with the place last year; it’s so quiet, no traffic, lots of nature, and the sense that you can really let go and relax. We went on lots of walks, discovered new beaches, went swimming (though the water is still pretty cold), did a chocolate-making workshop and went coasteering. Lots of adventures! We recharged our batteries and reset, which we really needed.
The piggies were well looked after whilst we were away and we were getting lots of updates from them.
We had some redecorating planned in the house and garden, re-organising things and just making it all look fresh and tidy. That’s still work-in-progress.
My Sassy Ladies’ Adorable Piggies’ Corner:
When we came back from our May break, Lumi already had her date arranged to meet a new piggy the very next day. I always find introductions quite nerve-wrecking, mainly because I really want them to work out and I’m afraid of either piggy getting hurt. We were also 5 wheeks away from our next holiday, so if it didn’t work out, Lumi would have to be by herself for a while.
The rescue we were talking to (Anim-Mates) told us that one of the three boars they had was very calm and always avoiding any conflict. Knowing that Lumi is a strong, independent sow, we thought he’d be most compatible with her.
The introduction went smoothly, with only a couple of hiccups towards the end and when we put them together in the cage. That calmed down fairly quickly and soon Lumi’s new room-mate, who we called Joey, was snuggling next to her or as close as she’d let him. They clicked so quickly; within a few days we knew he was a keeper! Joey is so in love with Lumi, I don’t think we’ve ever seen this closeness between piggies that didn’t grow up together. He’s so respectful towards Lumi and figured out she’s deaf pretty fast. He moves slowly and gently and backs down straight away if Lumi gets upset. He’s just like our Ozzie, the sweetest, gentle boy.
Whenever we look in the cage, Lumi and Joey are always together, always near each other, honestly, we are having cuteness overload!
Joey is around 3 years old. He’s getting used to us and doesn’t get spooked easily. He likes back rubs and he lies down fully relaxed whilst we stroke him.
New creations:
Summer is a quiet time in terms of orders. I’m focusing on restock and making seasonal piggies. The high temperatures are also making it almost impossible to work with clay.
I had an order for a Personalised Skinny Pig and I think this is my best skinny pig sculpture I’ve ever made! I’m so proud of myself, they are always trickier to make than the furry variety!
